Differences between VSS and VSTS

I was wondering if any of you were using Visual Source Safe or Visual Studio Team System or both combined?
I was looking at some of the settings in VSS and it looks like it will allow multiple people to checkout and work on a project at the same time. If this is the case then what would you need VSTS was for?

Well, VSTS combines not only VSS but also the development environments as well. Like an all-in-one bundle. If you only need the check-in/check-out, then VSS is all you really need and its much cheaper too. :)

VSTS stands for Microsoft Visual Studio Team System .
"Visual Studio Team System" represents extended versions of Visual Studio .NET. It includes a set of collaboration and development tools for software development process.
"Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition" is part of all Visual Studio team editions. In addition, the team system editions include several development and collaboration tools. Microsoft has introduced separate editions of Team System for various role members of the team. Each one of the below flavours have specialized tools for the corresponding roles:
